Rob Reiner’s mockumentary, a great early example of a form that has become especially prevalent in television and film, does everything a film about music should.  It has a cast of blissfully clueless musicians, ridiculous stage design, and some great original songs.  Endlessly quotable and instantly recognizable, This is Spinal Tap remains as hilarious today as upon its release 40 years ago.
